Dalat began life properly as a colonial retreat for the ruling French in the early 1900s – and you can see why. Located in the Central Highlands area of the country, it’s not only cooler than the tropical lowlands but absolutely breathtaking as well. Mountain views, coffee farms, and glassy lakes are the order of the day here.
The town itself is strewn with French colonial architecture – former holiday homes – which creates the atmosphere of a European resort. Since then, some creative Vietnamese touches have been added, e.g., The Valley of Love and the Eiffel Tower. It’s popular with honeymooning Vietnamese couples.
Staying in Dalat is a matter of booking yourself into one of the varying types of accommodation on offer; from lakeside to central and from wood cabin to colonial luxury, you’ll easily find something for you.
