Some amazing hotels listed here. After the war some amazing resorts have sprung up in the east coast as well. And I think a honorable mention of some of them should be added to the list. At least the Jungle Beach Resort and the Maalu Maalu resort ?

The article features only rather upmarked places. If you want something mid budget you should check out the marakolliya beach in Tangalle (southern Sri Lanka). There are several really laid back, clean and wonderfull resorts. The resorts down there are operated by locals so you get an authentic impression of the country. You can still watch the fishermen hunting for lobster in front of your resort and choose the fish you want to have for dinner in the evening. We stayed in the shivas beach and had a wonderful time in very nice wooden cabanas directly at the beach. Sea turtles came in one night to lay their eggs nearby and lots of birds and other wildlive can be spotted in the lagoon behind the beach. There is no coast road behind the hotel like in many places along the cost of sri lanka. You just step out of your resort and walk for miles along an unspoiled beach…
