Say ‘Bordeaux’ and people will immediately think of wine. That isn’t necessarily untrue; Bordeaux is the definitive capital of the Bordeaux wine-growing region. There’s certainly plenty of wine to be had in this city, that’s for sure. But although the name is famed throughout the world, there’s a lot more to Bordeaux than fermented grape juice.
Bordeaux is a beautiful place to explore. It’s bursting at the seams with grand old mansions and towering churches, huge public squares full of old world extravagance, and historic streets to wander.
Staying here won’t break your budget; there are a few hotels that are thankfully mid-range. That said, if you want to splash out on something lavish, with all those historic buildings around, you can definitely do that.

At the hotel, guests can enjoy simple, stylish rooms decorated with a modern eye for design. There’s even an onsite bar for a few evening drinks before heading out to see what the city has in store in terms of dining.
7. InterContinental Bordeaux Le Grand Hotel
A historic place to stay in Bordeaux, the InterContinental Bordeaux Le Grand Hotel is set in an 18th-century building and has the interior credentials to match.
Choosing to stay here means luxuriating in elegant rooms furnished with a rich selection of decor, eating in one of the two high-end restaurants, drinking in the cocktail bar, or unwinding in the sprawling spa and pool area.
The neighborhood in which you’ll find this hotel is just as historic. The hotel actually faces the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, is a stone’s throw from the Église Notre-Dame, and isn’t far from the imposing Bordeaux Cathedral, either. There’s also a tram stop, Grand Théâtre, right next door.
6. Residhome Bordeaux
A mere minute’s stroll from the La Cité du Vin tram stop, this hotel is also close to some great sights. Most famous of all is the nearby La Cité du Vin. Just over a five-minute walk from the hotel, this upscale museum is where you can get a taste of the wine the region is known for.

5. Mercure Bordeaux Centre Gare Saint Jean
Staying at this branch of Mercure in Bordeaux means being very close to the main train station of the city – Gare de Bordeaux Saint-Jean – as well as the tram stop that serves it. Even closer, however, is Tauzia, another tram stop just a couple of minutes’ walk away.
The Centre Gare Saint Jean hotel may not be near major sights, but getting to the old center of town and attractions like Bordeaux Cathedral is made easy by catching the trams. The hotel boasts an on-site restaurant, a bar, and unfussy but clean and warmly decorated rooms for a very convenient place to stay in the city.

The rooms at Quality Hotel Bordeaux Centre may be compact, but they’re clean, contemporary, and the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for somewhere central in Bordeaux. There’s a chilled out restaurant onsite, plus an elegant lounge bar to round things off.
But it’s the location of this hotel that makes it such a great choice. The surrounding area is filled with a multitude of shops and boutiques that make it easy to shop till you drop; there are plenty of drinking and dining options, too.

1. Hotel des 4 Soeurs
The building in which this hotel is housed is beautiful. The rooms may not be as high-end as the 18th-century edifice itself, but they’re traditionally decked out; plus you can opt for a family room, meaning you’ll get a private balcony with a view.
Two metro stops on two different lines – Quinconces and Pôle d’Echanges Quinconces – make it easy to zip around the city. But amazing Bordeaux sights are within easy reach of Hotel des 4 Soeurs; the Monument aux Girondins is nearby, as is the iconic Place de la Bourse.
More historic sights on the doorstep, as well as shops, restaurants, bakeries, and more give this hotel a top location.
